But several major projects - including a new solar powered stadium, cutting-edge industrial heat recovery systems and the transformation of an area landfill into a methane power plant - show just how serious Kaohsiung really is about creating a sustainable city of the future. 
Having felt the full effect of increased typhoons and droughts due to global warming, Taiwan and cities like Kaohsiung are on the leading edge of carbon dioxide reduction technology, innovation and policy-making.
